Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need tutoring?

Yes and No. This depends on a lot of factors. The biggest factor is where they are currently (academically) and where do they want to be.

Your child may be working well in school and meeting their target grades but wants that extra push to the next level, tuition could help.

Your child may be trying as hard as possible but cannot seem to keep up with the rest of the class, tuition could help.

Your child has had a bad experience in school and wants to get back on track, tuition could help.

Fundamentally, you need to have regular dialogue with your child about whether the work they do in school is enough to achieve their personal ambitions.

I have decided my child would benefit from tuition, what do I do next?

Contact me and we can arrange an initial one-to-one lesson. We will discuss where they are currently with maths and what they want to achieve. We will then develop a personalised plan for your child to help them achieve their goals.

Where do you hold your teaching sessions?

Session locations are flexible depending on your location and availability. Online lessons are being temporarily offered during the coronavirus pandemic though this is not the normal mode of delivery.

Do I need to buy any books or revision guides?

No. I provide all material needed for the lesson, additionally any revision guides/packs will be provided for you to take home at certain points in the year.

I cannot attend a lesson, do I have to pay?

Unlike most tutors, there is no cancellation fee or penalty for missing a regular weekly lesson. However, I do ask that you notify me as soon as you know your child cannot attend, out of courtesy.

Revision courses and holiday sessions are prepaid and unfortunately cannot be refunded.

What measures have been taken to minimise the effects of the coronavirus?

Every effort will be taken to ensure the safety of students, myself and families. Group numbers are therefore limited to ensure social distancing is possible and students are encouraged to wear PPE. Hand sanitisers are readily available during the lesson as well as hand washing facilities. Students showing symptoms should self-isolate, be tested along with their families and others they may have come into contact with as a precaution. The key theme will be to conduct lessons with caution to protect the health of all concerned, taking a more cautious approach than government guidelines.

For lessons conducted in the home, additional steps during the pandemic include:

  • Maintain social distancing wherever possible. Ideally 2 meters or 1 metre+ if that’s not possible

  • Wash hands on arrival and maintain social distancing when entering the home

  • Discuss with households ahead of a visit to ask that social distancing guidelines (2m, or 1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable) are maintained

  • Ask households to leave all internal doors open to minimise contact with door handles

  • Identifying busy areas across the household where people travel to, from or through, for example, stairs and corridors, and minimise movement within these areas

  • If appropriate, bring your own food and drink to households and have breaks outside if possible

  • Avoiding sharing pens, documents and other objects.

  • Maximise ventilation whenever possible.

Wearing a face covering is required by law when travelling as a passenger on public transport in England. Elsewhere in England it is optional and is not required by law, including in the workplace. If you choose to wear one, it is important to use face coverings properly and wash your hands before putting them on and before and after taking them off.

Please note that guidance on face masks is subject to revision and change
